Then the PADI Divemaster course is the right choice for you: it is the first step towards a career in the diving industry and is a prerequisite for both the PADI Assistant Instructor and PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certifications.
We have trained many people to Divemasters and strongly believe the best way to learn is to experience how a dive center operates and not just reading books and doing simulated exercises, but by actually helping to train real students in their diving courses. Therefore this course is conducted as an internship and should be taken over several weeks. You need to read relevant theory, answer knowledge reviews and pass the final multiple-choice exams.
This course teaches you to be a leader and take charge of dive activities. Through knowledge development sessions, water skills exercises and workshops, and hands-on practical assessment, you develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of scuba diving activities.Knowledge development covers the following topics:
- the roles and characteristics of a Divemaster
- supervising general diving activities
- assisting with student divers in training
- dive theory introduction
- physics of diving
- physiology of diving
- dive equipment
- decompression theory and the RDP
- Divemaster conducted programs
- the business of diving and your diving career
You will work with students on real courses and help prevent, overcome, and assist with common problems they may encounter while learning to dive. You will act as an instructional assistant and your performance will be evaluated. Further, you will strengthen your stamina in the water and perfect your rescue skills.
To sign up for this course you must be at least 18 years old and have a Rescue Diver certification from PADI or other agency. You also need an Emergency First Responder Primary and Secondary Care training certificate (within 24 months) or you complete this training along the course. You need to get a medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months. You also should be comfortable in the water, have good swimming skills, and as well be in reasonable physical health. To begin the course you must have at least 40 logged dives and 60 dives to earn certification.
